Abstract

This paper provides a brief yet comprehensive overview of the physical and human resource characteristics of the Kalimpong region, situated in the eastern Himalayas of West Bengal, India. The study explores the intricate interrelationship between the region’s topography, climate, soil, and natural vegetation, which collectively shape its physical landscape. In parallel, it examines the demographic features, settlement patterns, occupational structure, and socio-economic resources of the local population. The paper highlights how the unique physiographic setting influences human activities, land use, and resource distribution. Through a combination of secondary data analysis and field observations, the discussion aims to identify patterns and challenges physical pattern and human resource characteristics in Kalimpong.
