Impact of Caste-Based Discrimination on the Socio-Economic Life of Scheduled Castes

Abstract

The present research paper reviews the impact of caste-based discrimination on the socio-economic life of Scheduled Castes. Caste-based inequality and discrimination have existed in Indian society since ancient times, resulting in a highly vulnerable and deprived socio-economic condition for the Scheduled Castes. Due to their low status in society, these communities have largely remained excluded from the process of social mobility. Because of caste-based discrimination, they face complex issues such as inequality and exclusion in education, health, employment, dignity, and participation. The toxic notion of social isolation has acted like chains on their progress, preventing the desired change in their condition. Therefore, strong and strict measures are needed to protect them from the clutches of caste-based discrimination and to improve their socio-economic status.

Abstract in Hindi Language: प्रस्तुत शोध पत्र अनुसूचित जाति के सामाजिक- आर्थिक जीवन पर जातिगत भेदभाव के प्रभाव के समीक्षा प्रस्तुत करता है । जाति आधारित भेदभाव एवं असमानता भारतीय समाज में प्राचीन काल से ही विद्यमान रही है, जिसके कारण भारतीय समाज में अनुसूचित जातियों की सामाजिक -आर्थिक स्थिति अत्यंत दयनीय रही है। समाज में निम्न स्थिति होने के कारण यह जाति सामाजिक गतिशीलता की प्रक्रिया से अछूती रह जाती है । जातिगत भेदभाव के कारण अनुसूचित जातियों को शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, रोजगार, सम्मान, सहभागिता जैसे कई स्तरों पर भेदभाव एवं असमानता जैसी जटिल समस्याओं का सामना करना पड़ता है । सामाजिक अलगाव जैसे विषाक्त धारणा ने इनके पैरों में जंजीर का काम किया है जिसके कारण उनकी स्थिति में वांछित परिवर्तन नहीं हो पाया है । जातिगत भेदभाव के चंगुल से इनको बचाने एवं  इनकी सामाजिक-आर्थिक स्थिति को सुधारने के लिए कठोर एवं सख्त प्रयासों की आवश्यकता है ।
