'Ramsatta' The Unique Religious and Cultural Heritage of North Bastar

उत्तर बस्तर की अनूठी धार्मिक- सांस्कृतिक विरासत ‘रामसत्ता’

Abstract

Lord Rama shares a deep and profound connection with Chhattisgarh. Consequently, every grain of the sacred soil of this region resonates with the glorification of Rama and the chanting of His holy name, expressed through a myriad of artistic forms. 'Ramsatta' is a popular artistic and interpretive performance tradition prevalent in the rural areas of the region. The term Ramsatta literally translates to 'the Supremacy of Rama. True to its etymological roots, this performance tradition centres on the glorification of Lord Rama's divine majesty and the portrayal of His character, drawing its narrative essence from the Ramcharitmanas. Thus, a scholarly examination of this distinctive cultural event holds immense significance. The objective of this study, which focuses on Ramsatta as practised in the rural tracts of North Bastar, Chhattisgarh, is to systematically document and chronicle the details of this ancient religious and cultural tradition. Furthermore, the primary objective of this study is to safeguard Ramsatta from extinction, to encourage the preservation of its original form, and to transmit it to future generations through education and research. To gather information about the ancient cultural and religious heritage of Ramsatta in North Bastar, two reliable methods of primary data collection have been employed: observation and interviews.

Abstract in Hindi Language: प्रभु श्रीराम का छत्तीसगढ़ से गहरा नाता रहा है। इसलिए इस क्षेत्र की पावन धरा के कण-कण में राम एवं राम नाम का महिमागान कई कलाओं से युक्त है। ‘रामसत्ता‘ कलात्मक एवं व्याख्यात्मक आयोजन के रूप में ग्रामीण अंचलों में लोकप्रिय है। रामसत्ता का अर्थ ‘राम का प्रभुत्व‘ होता है। अपने मूल अर्थ के अनुसार ही इस आयोजन में रामचरितमानस के अनुरूप भगवान राम की महिमा एवं उनका चरित्र चित्रण किया जाता है। अस्तु, इस विशेष आयोजन का अध्ययन विशेष महत्व रखता है। छत्तीसगढ़ राज्य के उत्तर बस्तर के ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में प्रचलित रामसत्ता के अध्ययन का उद्देश्य इस प्राचीन धार्मिक एवं सांस्कृतिक आयोजन की जानकारी को लेखबद्ध कर एक विस्तृत दस्तावेजीकरण  करना हैं, जिससे छत्तीसगढ़ की इस अनूठी लोक संस्कृति एवं जन आस्था से सामान्य जन को परिचित कराया जा सके। साथ कि इस अध्ययन का प्रमुख उद्देश्य रामसत्ता को विलुप्त होने से बचाना, इसके मूल रूप को संरक्षित करने हेतु प्रोत्साहित करना तथा शिक्षण एवं अनुसंधान के माध्यम से इसे भावी पीढ़ियों तक पहुँचाना भी है। उत्तर बस्तर में रामसत्ता की प्राचीन सांस्कृतिक एवं धार्मिक विरासत से संबंधित सूचनाओं को एकत्रित करने के लिए प्राथमिक सूचना संकलन की दो विश्वसनीय विधियों, अवलोकन एवं साक्षात्कार का प्रयोग किया गया है।
